Yes the bearings are splash-fed. The weight of the oil will not affect the
lubrication to the bearings as the lower number is the same. I doubt using
oil with a higher upper number will have any beneficial effect. Better to
have the diff set up properly as others suggest though if you have been
running the set for some time then the gears may already be worn in to each
other and you may not be able to have the R & P set reshimmed, etc.
