As others have said it could be insufficient fuel delivery at the top end.
I had a more extreme example when I fitted my rally cam and triple Webers,
at 4500 rpm on acceleration the whole thing pretty much died. I fitted a
Facet Red top with increased flow and the problem was solved.
The vacumn advance won't make any difference, it does not operate when the
throttles are fully open.
