When I redid my dashes I stripped off the old veneers, bought some gorgeous
new walnut burl veneer and laminated to the existing plywood. My car
didn't have a glove box so I bought some marine plywood, cut it to fit and
veneered that as well. I finished it with about a dozen coats of marine
varnish and it looks fabulous. IMHO, plywood is much more stable than solid
wood which I think would tend to warp over time.
