Sustained speed overheating has never been a problem for Healeys... it is
running idle at a standstill that causes a problem. The issue is air
circulation in the engine compartment.
A car at speed has sufficient air movement over/under the car to extract the
hot air from the engine compartment. A stationary car at idle has a
tendency for the air to stagnate around the engine. Where problems erupt is
when too much of that stagnating air around the engine gets a chance to
circulate back in front of the radiator and get resucked through the
radiator. A few minutes of that recirculating hot air through a radiator
(no matter how "good" the fan) will result in overheating.
The original engine compartment design included baffles to help prevent air
from the engine area from finding its way back in front of the radiator.
The fan provides enough suck on outside air to get cool air past the
radiator and to then force engine compartment air out (either "out" under
the car, or "out" into the passenger compartment :-) )....But the point of
this note is to remind people that a cool engine temp at sustained speeds is
not at all impressive. Only a cool engine temp on a hot day, in heavy
city congestion traffic is impressive.

Forget the Texas cooler. It flexes and cuts into the radiator. I have tried
the Texas cooler, the electric fan, and the oil cooler. Nothing worked
until I added an extra row to my radiator. Installing the enlarged unit was
not easy but it did go in OK. I have not had a single problem with the
engine temperature since. I have driven at sustained speeds of 70 + mph in
90 degree temps and the engine never gets excessively hot. It has been an
absolute pleasure to drive the beast since the nightmare of high temperature
was solved.
