The tapered peg is usually adjusted such that the tight spot is slightly
perceptible. Any tighter & it will be too tight. Any looser & there will be
too much free play on each side of the tight spot. The tight spot will not
necessarily occur at exactly the straight ahead position. The only adjustment
to the location of the tight spot will also affect the toe in. With a stock
front suspension it is impossible to avoid this.
Yes, the Dennis Welch constant clearance worm is intended to eliminate the
tight spot so that the clearance (free play) is consistent from lock to lock.

Back to the (Bj8) steering box, is having to set free play to one side of the
ight spot of the worm gear a common issue.  What what is the solution.  Is
hat what the Dennis Welch worm gear is all about.
