Frank ~ Had the same problem with my '36 Buick a couple years ago. By the
"same", I mean about a 45 min. drive & then it quit. Same the next day.
The fuel filter was plugged with a slimey crud the consistency of Elmer's Glue
& it was rust colored. Apparently I had put in some ethanol blended fuel the
previous year & the alcohol either freed up or made rust in the gas tank (or
both). I had put the correct amount of "Sta-Bil" in the tank before storage,
but that wasn't good enough. The alchol had also eaten the rubber diaphrams
in the mechanical fuel pump, fuel lines & the carb. Very expensive repair.
Since then I make it a point not to use ethanol blended fuel & if I have to
use an ethanol blend, I add "Starbrite, Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment". I
also make sure I run the ethanol fuel out & refill with unblended fuel ASAP.
Hope that is not your problem,
Mad Mike, Madison, WI

Subject: [Healeys] problem keeping Healey running
Woke BT7 up from winter sleep about two weeks ago, started fine, took out
for a spin, about 45 minutes into drive began to run poorly, then stopped in
heavy traffic, got it started, went home without dropping to idle, running
very poor. Next morning repeated the same, same behaviour. Have checked
ignition (Pertronix), plugs and coil fine, a little sediment in carb bowls,
what could it be that develops after some time under power, welcome advice.
TIA, Frank Yow
