G'day all

The restoration of my V6 engined BN1, completed last year, cost A$23k,
including the hard top (no soft top). This car is about as non-original as
you can get, but was completed to "good driver" standards. All the hard work
(chassis, panels) was done; I had no engine/transmission work to do; many of
the chrome parts came new with the car - it has no bumpers. I got the paint
for free. So I don't think you could do one much cheaper than this, and I
can only imagine what it would have cost to build it even to original, but
non-concours standards. Major outsourcing costs were final panel and paint
$8k, electrics (more complicated because of "foreign" engine) $3k, trimming
(I bought the materials and did all the easy stuff myself) $2k.

I paid A$12k for the car, complete but with foreign motor/transmission,
metalwork mostly done, brakes, wiring, fuel system, paint, trim etc and
final assembly to be finished.

Cheers

I have spent over 20K on parts alone. I did most of the work myself.
Paneljob and painting is cheap (3-5K each) here in my country. But still You
must add sandbalsting, plating, upholstery etc.
