Common phenomenon in airplanes. Many smaller engines--up to 360ci--have an
8-qt. sump, but won't hold more than 6 qts
for long. Most, also, spec a minimum of 4 qts and will run, for a while
anyway, on 2.
I put 7 qts in the BJ8 when I change the oil (calls for 7.5).
