Per, you are right on, if you don't carry a spare with a tube tire wire wheel car you should carry an extra tube, not a bad idea even if you have a spare. In my experience when a wire wheel tube tire goes flat it must either blow a big hole in the tube or shred the tube in an instant if you roll at all with no air pressure. What this means of course is that the slime stiff will do you no good at all. If you travel at all you don't know if the shop you are forced to use for repair has any tube in stock, so the tube is a good idea, and easy to stuff in a nook or cranny in the trunk.
