Rod -
Drain the gearbox oil. If you see metal flakes or metal pieces in the
oil (esp in the first bit that comes out). STOP driving the car!
If there isn't any metal in the oil I suspect that one of the selector
forks is installed wrong or missing or some such nonsense.
Taking the top off the box to look inside is a good idea too.
