You are all correct.
Ray - Try a modern material.
These days, with the right guy, you can use a glass screen as a
template. And a mold. For a one off.
And get a safer, and optically correct screen.
Next time you visit an optometrist, tell him why you want "glass"
glasses.
Then listen.
I didn't get glass glasses for my first pair (yes, never previously
had glasses) last week.
And think of the weight saving!!!
