I happen to have two of these jacks from Harbor Freight ("US General
Aluminum Racing Jack").
One I bought some years ago which works fine. The other came from a
friend's estate that seems to have the sudden lowering problem discussed
here. So Jody may have a very valid point. However, it only takes a little
practice with turning the handle to minimize the sudden lowering issue.
Last week I received a mailing from Harbor Freight that included a $30 off
coupon for the same jack that currently list for around $99. I friend will
be purchasing a jack for himself with the coupon. It will be interesting to
see how the jack he buys works in the lowering mode.
