I've had that knock on the pads. I found that the hole in the metal
portion of the pad that the pin goes through wears out of roumd, and
there is some room for the pad to move over the pin. This results in
a light knock. This seems to happen well before the pad itself is
worn, so I don't get it on new pads, but after a few thousand miles.
