You would still need lubrication as the electronic ignition is merely
replacing the points, not the centrifugal advance mechanism, and it is
this centrifugal advance system that makes the part with the lobes
rotate about 30 degrees, depending on the centrifugal advance, on the
distributor shaft. The magnets or slot rotor of electronic ignition
systems are fitted over the lobes.
The oil is not for lubrication of the lobes themselves. You need some
grease for that.
