The little Austin J-40 pedal cars, produced in Wales in a dedicated Austin
factory staffed by black-lung miners, were each fitted with four Champion
spark plugs which had been rejected by quality control. This was so the
junior driver/ mechanic could lift the bonnet and change plugs 'just like
father's car'.
With 32,000 J-40's made, that's what- 128,000 duff Champion plugs ?
Best
