I'd recommend using a paint treatment product first. I like Nu Finish
as it will restore much of the color without resorting to abrasives
which will actually remove material from the car. If your color comes
back with the Nu Finish and you feel those tiny rough bumps, use a
clay on it. That will dislodge the tiny particles and save your paint.
If that doesn't get a great result, go to rubbing/buffing compounds.
