Eric,
I can disconnect my battery and my car will run. Which is a poor man's field
test for determining if the alternator is charging. So yes the alternator does
supply the system.
My assumptions were that with an alternator, stock wiring and battery, new
dedicated wiring for extra accessories ( all in good working order) the stock
wiring would handle reasonable extra current in the charging system.
I did not account for the excptional case where faults prexist (battery short)
or ridiculous loads (teenage sized triple audio amps and subwoofers) <grin> are
introduced.
I am running a delco and extra lights and CB (each with aftermarket new
decicated wiring) and all is good. I do need to add a fuse to the fragile and
well know red read lights wire. That goes for generator or alternator tho.
Cheers!
