I agree with the opinion that it could be the coil, but if the timing was
not right, couldn't the same thing happen? With my first Healey, I would
take it to the BMC shop for a tune-up. They would set the timing to what
they felt was right. I would hobble back up the mountain to Blacksburg,
reset the timing to actually make the car run well, and go on my way.
Ticking, knock at startup... just getting the oil into circulation.
