When I had Peter rebuild my shocks several years ago I kept my originals
& paid the core charges.

I was was very pleasantly surprised when the rebuilts came back with
steel inserts firmly pressed into the apparently previously worn
mounting holes. I consider this an improvement which I would do on any
future rebuilds. Much more solid mount than bolting through the soft
aluminum ears. The aluminum only has to compress a thousandth or two to
release bolt tension & make the mount loose. Combined with hardened
washers under the bolt heads, there has been no sign of mount loosening
since.
