Larry
This is a downdraft Zenith single carburettor as fitted to A70s. I had
one on an A-H engine for some time when I ran a 100 engine in an A70
Hereford. One has to use an A70 inlet and exhaust manifold; plus a
mixture of pipes etc. I had a standard A70 air cleaner above the engine
but that would not fit under a 100 bonnet! I kept the normal A70
mechanical camshaft driven fuel pump.
I can guess that perhaps this was for fuel economy or SU supply problems
but as I say I am guessing.
Interestingly when I eventually changed over to twin SUs I noticed very
little difference in overall performance but perhaps just a little
better pull at high revs as you might expect. However I did expect a
better improvement than I actually got so was a little disappointed.
