The chance of a good trany from Ebay is very small. Most need to be
rebuilt, and good parts are extremely expensive. One has to ask
themselves why anyone would actually sell a perfectly good Healey
Transmission on Ebay when they could easily sell it locally to a friend or
club member and bypass all the headaches in shipping these beastly things.
I purchased 5 tranys on Ebay at various times and all had various problems.
I was able to combine enough parts to make one good unit but still had to
purchase many new parts to make it last and worth my time.
At the time I really , really wanted to keep the car original in order to
get the true Healey experience which I had never had before. I easily have
$2500.+ invested to get one unit on the road, plus my time.
Knowing what I know now, I would have taken a more serious look at the
Smitty conversion.
