David ... your 1/2" belt will wear on the side , a
correct belt should make full contact with the side of
the pulley, the cords on Healey type belts are all
around the top ,bottom and sides of the belt , the
cords on the side will get worn on your car useing the
1/2" belt in a 3/8" pulley ... Norman Nock
