Rich,
I'd guess its the dash switch. I had a similar problem and went through 2 new
dash switches before getting one that worked OK. It only takes a minute or
two to pull the switch out of the dash and then check for continuity with a
volt ohm meter.

Subject: [Healeys] Intermittent OD failiure
Greetings Healeyphiles,
for years, intermittently when I flicked the dash switch to engage the
OD on my BJ8, the OD would fail to engage. If i kept on flicking the switch
on and off, eventualy it would engage, especially if at the same time, I
depressed the accelerator to the floor. The OD and selenoid were rebuilt and
replaced three years ago. The problem existed before the rebuild and after
but is
now becoming a more frequent nuisance. The relay switch on the firewall was
replaced last year. The dash switch is original (1965). Is there any way I
can
test the switch to see if it intermittently fails? I would guess that this
occurrs once every twenty times I engage OD.
Thanks for any suggestions.
