Hi Jim,
The actual effective throw of the solenoid itself is likely to be
about 1/4". The actual installed throw should lift the operating valve
about .040". In theory, when the solenoid is deenergized, it could
drop to the bottom stop. In reality, because of friction on the O ring
seals on each end of the operating cross shaft, the solenoid may only
drop far enough to close the operating valve & not drop fully to it's
bottom stop. This is no problem if the OD shifts correctly. The
important thing is for the solenoid to travel completely to the top
(energized position) so that the operating coil contact on top of the
solenoid is opened.
