Peter,
I installed the stock heat shield from a 59' after changing to the
6-port head but will look at maybe fabricating something just to protect
the fuel line from the heat. When I first put the engine together I had
no heat shield and had a nightmare of a time getting the car to run
right. Thanks for your suggestion.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but until last summer I was
getting
vapour lock problems on my 57 BN4 as the engine started to get really
warmed up
on hot days . In the end we fitted a metal heat shield behind the carbs
to
protect the fuel line from the engine generated heat. Now it's fine.
