Jack -
If you don't want to run a tire jack through the hole, you need to determine
a few things.
1) if you got new 60 spoke tires, is the rim wider than the original 48
spoke tires that came with your car? If so that could be your problem...
wider rims will make the tire profile wider, and then they won't fit in the
hole. All of my healeys, including my BJ8 and BN1, use 48 spoke narrow rim
wheels for the spare for this very reason... space. No need for 60 or 72
spokes for a spare.
2) bias ply tires fit best - for a spare the old bias ply tires fit best...
say 550 x 15 or in that range of width. You can fit a 165x15 in there, but
it has to be mounted on an original width tire rim .
Best Regards,
Alan
