When I repainted my BJ8 (Colorado Red), I took the blanking plates from 
under the dash, cleaned and waxed them and used them as the basis of 
comparison for the color now on my car.  After 2 tries with the spectrascope 
we came to a perfect match:  It came out as Land Rover (BMC) Tartan Red.  My 
red was not and is as orange as some versions I have seen (at least to my 
eye).
