Someone on a previous engine rebuild must have secured the oil feed
pipe banjo bolt on my motor after the assembly was installed to the
head because the pedestal threads are pretty badly stripped. I figure
my choices are to buy a new pedestal (I am having the assembly
rebuilt by Rocker Arm Specialists) or to put a 3/8" helicoil in the
pedestal and fabricate a new banjo bolt. Since a new pedestal seems
to be less expensive than the minimum charge from a machine shop I am
tempted to just buy the new pedestal. However, having run into
several instances where new parts do not fit properly I am hesitant.
Anyone have any experience with this one? Any vendor issues of which
I should be aware? If you would rather let me know off-list please
do. Thanks as always.
