When I covered the seats in my BJ8, I did both glue and rivet the ends of
the material to the metal portions of the seat where they don't show, except
where the upholstery clips could be used. Glue alone will not take the long
term stress and keep the material in place. Eventually, it will come loose.
If you rivet, I suggest using small washers under the heads of the rivets to
spread out the stress and help ensure that the material doesn't pull out
around the rivets.

I am in the process in rebuilding the seats in my AHBT7. The front and
sides of the coverings for the bottoms fit nicely over the foam and
attach to the metal seat pan with small upholstery clips - no problem
here. But the back of the original bottom covering folded over and
clipped on some metal spikes protruding from the bottom of the pan;
thewe spikes are no longer serviceable and I am wondering how to fasten
this part of the cover: should I glue it? what about riveting it? I
would prefer not to use hog rings but may have to.
Also, what is the neatest way to secure the bottom of the seat back
covering. Should I fold the back over and glue it to the bottom of the
front, and then glue the front to the back?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
