Terry -

You have a switch on your OD which shuts off the OD if you are in 1st, 2nd or
reverse. What you describe cannot damage your OD. In fact, even if the
override switch was broken it still wouldn't hur the OD... except only if you
shifted into reverse by mistake.

OD is basically a little one speed automatic transmission attached to the back
of your gearbox.

So where does one go to find out how to safely use the OD? I keep thinking
I'll forget to drop out of OD and possibly damage it by shifting into 1st or
2nd while its still engaged.

No, I meant exactly what I said. Jason's email seemed to provide a very
basic and rudimentary description of the problem, and so I asked a simple
question to start. Once we get the answer to this question we can ask more
sophisticated questions and get to the root of the problem. Healey's don't
come with a manual that tells you how to use the OD, and many "newish"
healey owners don't know how to use the OD.
