Jason, I had a similiar problem. The OD would engage somewhat at random even
though the switch on the dash was off. This occured primarily when moving at
slow speed and under load. It turned out that the shaft that passes through
the OD case was physically binding and apparently would leave the operating
valve in a margional state (not fully closed or open). I suspect that the
hydraulic pressure would vary enough to cause the OD to engage.
The solution was to free-up the shaft (used some penetrating oil). I have
adjusted the solinoid but it seem,d to be within tolerance and checked the
relief hole on the operating shaft. There could be other problems involving
hydraulic pressure etc. but for now my unit works ok. Good Luck
