I disagree. Now is the time to apply for a Passport while it is fresh on
your mind. It will not get to you by the time of the Rendezvous HOWEVER, the
next time you need to go out of the country you will have one. Don't forget,
if you want to go to Mexico or Canada, you will need one in a few months
anyway. For those of us on the East Coast who like to go to the Caribbean or
Bermuda for a quick vacation (and my family does frequently) a Passport will
now be necessary where before only a birth certificate was required.
I would rather have one on hand (which I do) than to pay the exorbitant
expedited fees which are several hundred dollars rather than the basic $90
for the regular service.
As I learned in the Scouts, Be Prepared.

If you don't have one now don't waist your time trying to get one. It will
take about 2 months to get one.
When we went to Cancun last year it took us about 8 weeks to get a passport
and we were told at that time that it was required to get back into the
states.
