i opened up a steering box i bought today and it was filled to capacity with a
grease like chassis grease. i know healeys are supposed to use oil like
penrite, but if it is filled with grease, how could the grease not cover every
surface constantly and keep it lubricated. does grease have a detrimental
effect on the bearings. i am going to clean all of this grease out, but i
have a feeling this box has been operating a long time with grease in it, and
i would like to know if i have to do anything other than normal cleaning?
