I believe the ring goes on the inside of the shift boot. The ring is installed on the boot, the boot is inverted and then slid down the shift lever. And yes it serves the function of keeping the boot secured to the shift lever so there is no small gap for hot air. I looked at many photos before I installed mine and although I saw it both ways the majority were as I have described. It also looks more appropriate as I describe. Jim Sailer 66 BJ8 |
