Use two, one for each side. To suspend kayaks, I used boat trailer loading
winches (about $35 each for the light duty ones), some rope and pulleys.

It is only rated for 50 lbs. How much does a hardtop weigh? Mine is
pretty light, but it is missing the rear window.
