Glad to hear that things are proceeding apace.
If you intend put your engine on an engine stand you are best to remove the
clutch, flywheel and rear plate before doing so.
If you don't, you will have to lift it off the stand again to remove those
parts to get the crank out.
The easiest way to mount it on the stand is to remove the mount head from
the stand and bolt that to the block, then slide the mount head back into
the tube on the stand as you lower the engine. i.e. bolt the stand to the
engine not visa versa.
For best balance you need to adjust the stand arms such that the axis tube
of the stand is about 2 - 3 inches above the crank centerline.
If you have stand with only 3 legs be VERY careful moving it around as the
whole thing is going to be somewhat top heavy and a bit teeter-totterish.

The engine is out and dangling from a chain in the garage. How do you attach
an engine stand to it? It looks like the clutch must come off. Is that
right?
I left the gear box in the car. The engine had to move forward about 5"
before the shaft disengaged from the throw out bearing. But no real
problems.
