Question regarding the three 'cheesehead screws' on SU carbs. On all three
Healeys I have had, the screws when I got the cars had no compression washers.
I assumed that was the way they are until we got the Daimler Dart, and the
HD6's on it had split-spring type compression washers. Were these an
afterthought, or are SU vacuum bells supposed to be secured with washers? I
have no problems with the 100 in terms of the screws backing off. The
cheeseheads seem to hold perfectly well. I'd as soon dispense with the washers
on the Daimler bells, as one of the vacuum pistons binds a bit unless you
tinker with the torque on the screws with the washers in place.
Sorry for polluting the Healey List with Daimler questions, but there is only
one Daimler club (Lancaster, Eng.) and the postings are "relatively
infrequent".
