Hallo David,
India ink works well. I got this from an art store. Unlike paint, it soaks in
nicely. I used a small artist's brush and gave it three coats. Once dry, I used
black boot polish to finish off.
The result is a little blacker and shinier than original, but I do not know
of anything that will bring back the original slightly dull look of Bakelite.

Subject: Trafficator finish
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Is your trafficator looking dull, tired, and lifeless? Does it not seem
to
have that shine and bounce that it once had?
No, this is not a shampoo commercial. I'm looking for suggestions as
to how
to best stain/restore the finish on the trafficator hub. (the bakelite?
part).
I've tried black shoe polish (liquid and paste) --and it looks good for
a
while before going kinda gray and dull again.
Any suggestions?
