I was afraid this might happen.
As I said, I had no intent to criticize anyone who wants to modernize or
modify his/her Healey. I just simply wanted to (re?) state the case that can
be made for the stock setup(s).
I used to go nuts and get high and mighty about it, -but I've matured, and
learned new perspectives. -However I do still feel that on occasion, a case
can and should be made for the various quirks and foibles that I feel make it
a period car. -for the consideration of any who may be on the edge of deciding
one way or the other.
-That is, making the case that some of the things we talk about "getting rid
of" are some of the things that I really really like. Challenging gearboxes
that require concentration and familiarity. Tuning and running quirks that
50's and 60's cars still had. -All of the things that force me to remember
every time I climb in that this is not my run to the corner for a loaf of
bread, pick up the kids at soccer car.
-It even forces me to slow down a little bit, think about what I'm doing, and
DRIVE.
I know that the stock arrangements aren't going to win me anything at the
track. -But that's not what I bought mine for. Mine is a time machine. It
takes me back to the 50's and 60's, and forces me to wait for it to warm up,
focus on my gear shifts, and accept less than techno perfection. -I like that.
I like to hear about people who don't like that, and hear about what they do.
=Not because I think I will ever do it myself, but you never know, plus I like
to hear about engineering projects. ---But catalytic converters???? Naw.
I like to discuss the merits of the original arrangements, for those who may
agree.
