Richard:
Not sure what went on in the posts from John and Rich.
The b/w wire runs from its terminal on the coil to its terminal on the
battery disconnect switch. It's purpose is to ground the ignition stopping
the engine from running on the generator - even with the battery
disconnected in certain circumstances (thank you Norman Nock for a previous
explanation).
There should be a wire from that coil terminal to the distributor for the
ignition to work.
Reconnect the b/w wire at the coil but not in the trunk - tape the trunk end
so it does not ground. If the engine starts, the wire is okay in the
harness - not grounded anywhere. Touch the wire in the trunk to any
convenient ground - the engine should stop immediately. You've proved to
yourself that the circuit is okay. Restart and touch the wire to its
correct terminal on the battery master switch. If the engine keeps running,
your problem is solved - go for a drive if it ever stops raining. If the
engine stops, the switch itself is still faulty - that terminal is
internally grounded for some reason.
Let us know.

Hi John, The battery switch is back in. If I disconnect the b/w wire from
the
battery switch, coil & disty and then put a jump wire between the coil and
disty without anything to the battery switch the car starts instantly. Any
ideas? The switch itself checks out OK. I also ran the b/w wire directly
from the battery terminal with no luck. I just tested the wire between the
battery switch and the distributor with a test lamp - wire is good. What
the
heck???
