Thanks to all for the suggestions and help on the wiring issue.  As usual it 
turned out to be a number of issues.  One, dirty contacts inside the flasher 
unit.  Two, defective NEW steering hub (shorted wire inside).  Three, needed 
new flasher relay.  At any rate, all is well now.  Sure is nice to have a few 
items in inventory to switch out with.
