Hi Mark,
 
my BT7 has the chassis number H-BT7-L/9335 and had been despatched on  May 
6th, 1960 (BMIHT certificate), so the one you have seen, with the number  7126 
must have been despatched before and is probably from begining of 1960 and  not 
from 1961.
By the way, mine is also red with a black interior and has an hard top  too,
