Friends, I need help. I assembled my steering gear from the bits and pieces
the P.O. gave me, with the result that if I put one wheel pointing straight
forward the other wheel wants to make a sharp turn. Checked everything that
could be checked and ended with the steering levers: I suspect one of the two
is wrong, but which one?
Looking at various pictures from various sources I always see that the
steering box arm makes a left turn and the idler box arm makes a right turn,
both looked at in the driving direction.
On my car the bend in the idler's arm is in the wrong direction: mine points
to the left, just like the one on the steering box. My conclusion therefore is
that I have the wrong arm on the idler. But which of the two is correct for
the steering box?
The marking on the arms is nearly identical: 6277/8, then three letters SDF in
an oval, then '17' on one and '16' on the other. BUT:
THE ANGLES DIFFER! As far as i can measure accurately the '17' has a 146
degrees angle, the '16' has a 138 degrees angle.
Question one: which of these two is the correct one for the steering box?
Question two: what should the marking be on the idler steering lever?
Thanks in advance for the help which will undoubtedly come!
