While on the subject of brake lights I added an LED third brake light to my
Rally Car this weekend. This is a slim Billet Aluminum piece that mounts inside
the hardtop window with an articulating mount and adds a bit of safety
without being intrusive in appearance. It is made for street rods and works
great on
the Rally Car which normally runs with the hardtop on. Many have mounted a
similar light from a Chevy Suburban to their boot lid.
I wired it into the brake light circuit in the trunk and it would not work.
Hooked the light to the battery and it worked (12 volts). I measured the
voltage at the rear lights and it was only 9 volts. Hooked the light to the
after-market switch located at the pedal and it worked. There it measured 10
volts.
I ended up running a wire from the battery and wiring in a relay to power the
light. Looks great and the NAPA after-market brake light switch gives me
instant brake lights at the slightest depression of the pedal.
All this plus a new clutch and much more in preparation for a trip to SEC.
Unfortunately the rear wheel cylinder started leaking last night so I will be
driving the BJ8 instead.......
Thanks,
