Hi Gary,
The BJ8s had an electronic tach right from the very first.
If the dip stick position is correct for a BJ8 then I suspect that someone
has changed the distributor and drive.
Perhaps you should check the manufacture date on the distributor it is
probably before '64.

I ran into a stumper today. I am working on a 64 BJ8 which appears to have
the correct motor. It has a cable drive coming off the distributor post for
the tach but the tach that is in the car is electronic. i.e. no cable
connection
and it appears to have the correct face, etc.. Did the early model BJ8's
have mechanical or electronic tachs? i.e. which is wrong, tach or
distributor &
post?
