I am all for organizing into a bigger group. Never
understood why there were more than one and often
mixed then up. After ten years it is still not
clear...
As an example this year when planning my trip to
Monterey (Historics), I considered taking the Healey.
I used to take it. It is a beautiful ride - top down
from LA along the coast - 5-6 hours. Always left the
top in the garage.
It is unfortunate that us Healey folks are too
disorganized to secure good track parking and too
proud to join up with other British car marques. As a
result the two or three of us that go have been
relegated to the far out field parking. This is the
same place they put the other ho-hum marques -
Delorean's, Pacers, RVs and useless tourist sedans.
First 10 years was OK, then last year I was forced up
a freshly plowed fire trail full of gopher holes and
weeds. Dragging the exhaust and oil pan up that hill
was enough to keep the toy racer away from the
historics.
At least with the BMW club the M5 parking will be
great. The club will be supportive and in the end I
am sure I will be more relaxed. Maybe it is time we
realize that there is power in numbers and join up so
we can experience some of the benefits the larger
clubs enjoy.
Not sure I am ready to join up with Jag owners, but
the Lotus guys might have good beer...
