This idea originated at the AHCA Presidents forum held at Conclave in
June. I can't attach it, but here is the text of the note sent out July
5 by Robb Handshuh, President of the Atlanta club, and originator of the
idea. It has since gained momentum and involves several clubs at this
point. Robb's email is handshuhrm@juno.com

"Hope yall who attended the 2005 Conclave had a safe trip home and
everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July Holiday.
One of the items discussed at the Conclave chapter presidents meeting was
getting the cars out in the public to keep up interest and awareness of
Healey cars. An idea that was tossed around at Margaritaville later that
evening was an AHCA National Ice Cream Social.
This is my proposal for an AHCA National Ice Cream Social. On Sunday
August 28, each chapter will select a location to meet for an afternoon /
early evening ice cream run. For chapters with large geographical
coverage, like Atlanta, more than one location could be selected. On that
day each chapter records the number of people and cars that showed up,
take some pictures (optional) and I will volunteer to do a quick write-up
for the Healey Marque on the total number of people and cars attending
across the country.
The Ice Cream Social gets the cars out in the public eye in an informal
setting. My experience has been Ice Cream shops are busy places in the
evening, generally families with kids that rarely get to see a Healey.
(Future Fifty?) Being held as a local event, it requires a minimal
investment in time / funds to participate. If we can get just 5 % of the
3800 AHCA members to participate that equates to almost 200 Healeys out
on display across the US on one evening.
Let me know what you think
