The cure will vary depending upon whether the noise source is spark
(ignition) or generator/regulator hash, but your radio power mods
suggest that it's spark noise coming in through radio's front end.

So first off, be sure that the antenna cable outer conductor (shield) is
at chassis ground, and that the center conductor is making a good
connection at both ends.  If you or a ham radio friend can rig up a
terminating plug for the antenna input, and that makes the noise go
away, you've got a big clue as to the next step.
