I second that. I taught myself how to drive a manual transmission on my
Healey. My dad passed away when I was 20 (I'm 29 now) and with no other
cars available I finally got the nerve to just give it a shot myself. I
found that the clutch was easy to use, the car will basically back its
self out of the garage without the use of the gas pedal. The
transmission does take some getting used to when compared with modern
cars. I still have a hard time not stalling my wife's Subaru when I
drive it, that car has no low end torque.

To be honest, the healey itself is one of the best cars to teach driving
a stick on. Any modern stick doesn't drive or feel anything like the
healey, and in fact you probably DON'T want them to learn on a rice
rocket first anyway because you have to rev the motor to engage the
clutch, which you don't do on a Healey.
The healey, once you get past the battleship-like shifter, is actually
very forgiving on the heel & toe because the car has so much torque...
I've taught many people to drive clutch on my BJ8... none of them ever
stalled the thing or ruined a gear.
