Permanently engaged? Though I slightly doubt it, don't use it in reverse if
you have any suspicion at all that the od is still engaged.
There's a couple of ods on UK eBay. You might need one if you use reverse
when od's engaged. Been there, done that. That's not a boast; it's a
confession!

Subject: Overdrive solenoid
Hello, Healeyphiles!
After many years of faithful service, my overdrive solenoid packed it in
during a recent return to North Carolina from Maryland. When it failed, it
did so to keep the O/D permanently engaged, which was sorta surprising to
me.
It really melted itself down. When it burns, it has a peculiar odor, by the
way, which I smelled during cruise on the interstate before I realized I the
problem with the overdrive.
Not wanting to risk replacing this original Lucas unit with some junk from
Taiwan, I thought I would ask on the list for recent experiences: has
anyone
bought a good or bad one recently, and from whom? I like to order from Moss
for convenience whenever possible, but this is a part that needs to be a
quality item.
Recommendations?
Thanks,
Steve Byers
